2017 Webinar – The Big Shift to Co-Digestion: Lessons from Utilities

The webinar included:

  1. Lessons Learned from Food Waste Co-Digestion Demonstration Project – Mark McDannel, Division Engineer, Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts
The State has mandated a 75 percent reduction by 2025 in the amount of organics going to landfills, which will require large amounts of food waste recycling.  Wastewater treatment plants have the potential to recycle food waste through co-digestion in existing digesters.  This presentation will discuss lessons learned from the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts’ food waste co-digestion demonstration project and their plans for implementation of a full-scale program.
  2. Lifting the Fog from FOG Receiving – Rashi Gupta, Associate VP/Project Manager, Carollo
Digestion of FOG can increase a plant’s energy production, but the potential challenges must also be acknowledged upfront. Proper staffing, stakeholder support, and realistic O&M expectations are critical to successful and sustainable system operations. We address these issues through real-life results so that facilities considering this process can make informed decisions.
